Our Story
How did a brother and sister from the Riverina, who grew up with cattle and sheep, end up passionate about breeding goats with their families?
Well, it started with blackberries.
Goats truly love them
We had an area of stunning natural bush which had blackberries interspersed between beautiful gums and gullies. With a deep commitment to protecting, and planting trees, the challenge was how to reduce the blackberries without chemicals or land clearing. The more we learnt about goats, the more we loved them and the natural plant recovery and weed control has been nothing short of remarkable. What began as a quest to manage blackberries, became an obsession with goats.
One of the most popular meats in the world
We saw an exciting opportunity to help grow the Australian goat meat market. Goat meat is one of the most widely eaten meats in the world and everything we researched indicated that the Australian market was looking for high quality goat meat.
We had grown up with animal breeding programs; our Dad was an early adopter of Limousine cattle in Australia, learning AI (artificial insemination) to improve our production. Competing against long established breeds, he was the first person to win both ‘on the hook and on the hoof’ for beef at our local show in the heart of the Riverina. It felt like a natural journey for us to build on this experience.
Breeding a premium quality product
And so, with generous input from some of the best goat genetic & breeding expertise in the world, and applying all the research and information we could find, we began our mission to produce premium goat meat.
